Organizatori egzibicionog turnira u Abu Dabiju nisu pozvali Rodžera Federera da učestvuje pod izgovorom da ‘nije dovoljno atraktivan igrač’.
Takmičenje se održava tokom božićnih i novogodišnjih praznika, a interesantno je da je Švajcarac učestvovao na sva prethodna četiri izdanja.

Organizatori su izjavili da su pozvani samo teniseri koji su prethodnih godina osvajali turnire.

“Glavni razlog je što slavimo prethodne šampione, a Rodžer, nažalost, nije osvajao turnir. Mi obožavamo Roždera, ali ovo je konačna odluka”, rekao je zvaničnik turnira Greg Sprol.

Mediji, međutim, navode da se iza ovakve odluke kriju komercijalni razlozi. Naime, jedan od najboljih tenisera svih vremena više ne sarađuje sa kompanijom IMG koja je jedan od finansijera turnira i koja na taj način želi da mu se osveti zbog raskida ugovora.

U Abu Dabiju će se od 27. do 29. decembra takmičiti Novak Đoković, Endi Mari, ukoliko se oporavi, Rafael Nadal, Janko Tipsarević, Tomaš Berdih i David Ferer.

Zna li se nesto za Novaka, potpisao za IMG ili ne?

Pa u istom članku valjda piše da samo što nije to pričaju cele godine već.
Čudno mi je da se ovoliko baš pokačio sa IMG, mora da ima tu još nečega osim toga što prosto nije produžio ugovor. Sasvim je moguće da ga nisu zvali baš zato što su znali da će odbiti, ali nisu morali to da obrazlažu na ovaj način to je još gore nego kad su Ani odbili WC za Montreal
Razume se, trebalo bi videti i šta piše u originalu, ne bi me čudilo da su naši novinari naduvali, po običaju.

Roger Federer Not Invited To Play Abu Dhabi In December

Organizers at the Abu Dhabi exhibition have delivered a backhanded slap to Roger Federer, failing to invite the four-time participant back for the fifth edition of their event between Christmas and New Years.



The Swiss who has won more in the sport than anyone who ever played was given a miss, allegedly due to the fact that only “former champions” were on the guest list this year for the multi-million dollar hit-and-giggle from December 27-29.



Not that the money really matters much to Federer, the top earner in all of tennis.



“The principle reason is that we are celebrating past champions and Roger, unfortunately, hasn’t won the event,” said tournament official Greg Sproule. “The Championship adores Roger and we cherish that friendship very much, but we are sticking to the theme of past champions. That was a very definitive, clearly cut decision.”



Delving below the surface might yield another, more commercial, conclusion. Federer is no longer welcome at the event due to his split this year from IMG, which just happens to run the well-paid exo earner for players keen to pay for their Christmas shopping.



Sproul, who happens to be one of IMG’s top men in the region, added: “The celebration of champions and the youth of the ATP, which we have in spades here with arguably the six hottest young players in the game, was our aim from the outset. These guys have more Grand Slam victories ahead of them rather than behind them.”



Those on court in the Gulf will include Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and – reportedly – Rafael Nadal, who has not played in six month due to his knee injury.



Federer should not be particularly bothered with the Abu Dhabi snub after completing what promises to be a groundbreaking December exhibition tour of three South American countries where he has never set foot. No matter what the ticket price, those exhibitions in Brazil, Argentina and Colombia are guaranteed sellouts.

Roger Federer has begun the countdown to this week’s start of his exhibition trip to South America, with the Swiss set to play for four nights in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo. The star of his first trip to the continent will take on a supporting cast of Brazilian No. 1 Thomaz Bellucci and will also face Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The women’s program will feature Maria Sharapova facing Caroline Wozniacki and Serena Williams playing Victoria Azarenka. The Bryan brothers will be along for doubles duties.

Federer has said for months how keen he is to finally travel to South America, even if he has never played any ATP events there. “If you haven’t been to a place, you just don’t know as much as you should. You have to look it up, spend a lot of time with people who are from there. I’ve had obviously some experiences, but I guess not enough.

“One of my big dreams was to hopefully play there one day. I knew through the normal schedule, it was going to be extremely hard to do. My only way to get to South America in some ways was to play an exhibition tour. I’m happy we’ve been able to accomplish that.”

Federer is expecting the December 6-15 tour of Brazil, Argentina and Colombia to be learning as well as earning experience for him.

“It’s big for me to go to see new places, playing in front of a crowd that I’ve never experienced before. That’s going to be really, really nice,”said the Swiss world No. 2.

“I definitely have some homework still to do more about the cities I’m going to, the countries, even though I know quite a few things. But I’d like to know as much as I can getting there beforehand.”
