Casey Dellacqua & Jordan Thompson won wild card tournaments to qualify for next month's Australian Open

Melbourne, Australia (AP)—Casey Dellacqua defeated Arina Rodionova 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 on Sunday to win a wild-card tournament and qualify for next month's Australian Open.

Dellacqua, ranked No. 2 in Australia behind Samantha Stosur, will make her 11th Australian Open appearance. Her best finish came in 2008 when she reached the round of 16 at Melbourne Park.

In the men's final of the Australian-only tournament, Jordan Thompson overcame a comeback attempt by Ben Mitchell to beat the former Wimbledon junior finalist 6-3, 6-2, 4-6, 4-6, 6-1. The 19-year-old Thompson qualified for his first Australian Open.

The Australian Open begins Jan. 13 at Melbourne Park.

Bosnian-American Amer Delic has been named Davis Cup captain for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Delic was born in Tuzla in the former Yugoslavia, which is now part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In 1996, Delic's family emigrated to Florida. A former NCAA singles champ for the University of Illinois, Delic played as an American until 2010, when he was asked to compete Davis Cup for Bosnia and Herzegovina. The now 31-year-old reached a career high No. 60 in 2007.

Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak has hired former Wimbledon finalist Nathalie Tauziat as her new coach

Former world No. 7 Nicole Vaidisova is working on her fitness, but has yet to decide whether she will launch a comeback, TENNIS.com has learned.

A former semifinalist at Australian Open and Roland Garros, Vaidisova retired from tennis in 2010 at age 20, saying she had lost her desire to compete. The 24-year-old says that once she gets fit enough she will "see" whether she wants to try and make a comeback.

Two-time NCAA singles champion Steve Johnson and 18-year-old Sachia Vickery earned wild-card invitations to the Australian Open by winning U.S. Tennis Association playoffs.

Johnson, who is 23 and played college tennis at Southern California, beat Tennys Sandgren 4-6, 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1 in the men's final on an indoor hard court.

Johnson is ranked 156th. His best showing at a major tournament was reaching the third round at the 2012 US Open as a wild-card entry.

The 195th-ranked Vickery defeated Victoria Duval 6-2, 6-3 in the USTA playoff women's final. Vickery also earned a wild card into this year's US Open, her Grand Slam debut, and got to the second round.

VIENNA -- Jurgen Melzer has pulled out of this month's Australian Open because of a persistent left shoulder injury.

The 27th-ranked Austrian underwent surgery on a torn tendon in October and needs more time to recover, the Austria Press Agency reports on Saturday.

Melzer hasn't played since losing to Kei Nishikori in the second round at Shanghai in early October.

Samo neko Nole trenira i neka se fokusira.Jedino on moze da dobije Rafu na predstojecem AO.Marej je rovit od operacije a Federer je jutros pokazao da je neozbiljan kandidat za nesto vise.Mislim da je se zeznuo sa ovim povremenim menjanjem reketa.Ovi ostali ne verujem da mogu nesto vise.

Samo neko Nole trenira i neka se fokusira.Jedino on moze da dobije Rafu na predstojecem AO.

Pravo da ti kazem, nesto mi i Nole nije siguracija protiv Rafe na GS-u, bez obzira sto se igra na AO-u. Onaj je fanatik, kako mec odmice on pada u neki trans iz koga tesko izlazi, dok je Nole postao ekspert za brljanje kad igra protiv Rafe.

Prvo neka stigne do finala pa ću onda da se brinem šta će biti u finalu naravno računam da do polufinala mora pod obavezno, a tamo ćemo videti ko će da čeka.
A izgleda da nije teren promenjen nego loptice, što mi zvuči prilično bez veze.
