Wim Fissette will no longer coach Kim Clijsters and will be replaced by Carl Maes, the former Belgian Fed Cup captain who also once privately coached the former No. 1, the Belgian press reports. Clijsters is not expected to return to play until 2012 due to a series of injuries.
_____________
Li Na has split with Danish coach Michael Mortensen, the China Daily reports. Mortensen helped coach Li to her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros, but China’s top player went into a slump after that, falling in the second round at Wimbledon and in the first round at the U.S. Open.

The 29-year-old Li said that she split with him because she did not like his "mild and gentle" way of coaching. "We have talked about it seriously and he respected my choice," Li added. Mortensen has also been the technical coach of No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.

So Djokovic, Federer and Soderling are out of Shanghai Masters. That means your top 4 seeds as of now are: Nadal, Murray, Ferrer and Fish.

Novak Djokovic Will Show Up in China Open

Tomas Muster u 44. godini završava tenisku karijeru

Sharapova: Radiation in Japan concerns pros
Ticker - Monday, September 26, 2011

Maria Sharapova says there was concern from some players about traveling to Japan to take part in this week’s Pan Pacific Open because of fears of radiation leaks from a tsunami-damaged nuclear power plant. The facility was abandoned last March after 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami struck the country, leaving more than 20,000 dead or missing.

"There was definitely a lot of talk before the tournament, a lot of players having concerns whether it's safe to come here," said Sharapova. "I know that a few actually didn't come here because they were a little bit scared."

Kim Clijsters said in the spring that she would hesitate to go to the tournament because of radiation fears, but she didn’t have to make the decision to go or not, as she is injured. Three other players—Francesca Schiavone, Yanina Wickmayer and Sara Errani—withdrew for personal reasons, while Serena Williams opted out for medical reasons.

Former world number two Michael Stich has criticised suggestions from Andy Murray that tennis players could strike over what they consider to be an overcrowded schedule.

"These tournaments provide them with jobs and an income," the 1991 Wimbledon champion told BBC Radio 5 live.
"I don't think the complaint is a good one. I didn't complain - and I played in tournament singles and doubles."
Former British tennis chief David Felgate believes strikes are unlikely.

On Monday, Murray told BBC Sport: "We just want things to change, really small things. Two or three weeks during the year, a few less tournaments each year, which I don't think is unreasonable."

But Stich said the bodies that govern tennis - and the tournaments that make up its calendar - support its professionals.

The German added: "I don't think it is a big issue. They are not playing more than we did 10 or 15 years ago and they have shorter seasons than we used to.

"When people like Stefan Edberg played in singles and doubles at Grand Slams, they [just] did their job. Andy Murray doesn't even play four rounds of Davis Cup each year.
"It's not down to the tournaments and the ATP, it's down to the players themselves. Perhaps they need to look out for their bodies and pick their tournaments better?"

Stich, who said he sits on the board of some tournaments, added: "They should never forget this is a partnership.
"If they were to go on strike, they should think what would happen if the tournaments went on strike. They would have no career, no income, no profession. It [striking] is not a good solution."

David Lloyd, the former Great Britain Davis Cup captain, is unimpressed by Murray's talk of a strike.

Lloyd said: "I find it an incredible statement. They are making absolute fortunes.
"Normally, you strike because you are not getting enough money or your place of work is not good enough. They play all the best places in the world, they get picked up by Rolls Royces at the airport, they stay at 10-star hotels and get paid a fortune.

"So I am not sure what part of the normal reasons to strike are there. To say we are going to get round the table to try to sort out the calendar is different. I think it is a scandalous thing to say.
"I have no sympathy for the players. They can play 19 weeks and make £10m or play 20 weeks and make £20m. An extra £10m, I don't really think that is a big problem to be honest."

Felgate - the former performance director at the Lawn Tennis Association, who has also sat on the performance board at the ATP - stressed that discontent from players over the schedule was an ongoing story.
He said: "I don't think we'll see a strike, certainly not from the Grand Slams. The guys aren't about to miss them.
"The biggest issue is where the Davis Cup falls after a Grand Slam - what we saw the guys having to do last week.
"The majority of players quite like those matches a week after [a Grand Slam] because most of them have lost halfway through. It is a problem.

"I don't know [what can change]. The conversation has gone on for years. There are so many factions. There's the ITF [International Tennis Federation], the four Grand Slams - who are all separate entities - then the ATP.
"You would hope they could all get together to sort it out but it's a cyclical story that just continues.
"The difficulty is, a lot of these tournaments are owned by people - you can't just shut them down. They would have to be bought and taken off the tour to create more space."

Federer, Nadal to play Latin American exhibitions
Despite complaining about the length of the calendar, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will take part in exhibitions this December.

ESPN Deportes reports that Nadal and David Ferrer will play an exhibition in Mexico City on December 5, just days after the Davis Cup final between Spain and Argentina ends. The Davis Cup final will be played in Spain. Nadal is said to earn at least $1 million per exhibition.

The web site Fue Buena reports that Federer is planning a series of exhibitions in South America sometime after the ATP World Tour Finals in December 2012. There are already agreements in place in Colombia and Brazil, and Argentina and Chile are also options. Brazil News confirmed with Federer’s agent that two exhibitions will be held there. Federer will reportedly earn at least $2 million. His opponents are unknown.

Monfils to work with Leconte in fall tournaments
Gael Monfils will work with Henri Leconte during the upcoming tournaments in Valencia and Bercy (the Paris Masters), L’Equipe reports. Monfils has been without a coach since ending his relationship with Roger Rasheed earlier in the summer. Leconte, a former Top 10 player, is a notable TV commentator, but has done very little coaching. "Gael is someone that I love and who has enormous potential, a game and a lot of unusual charisma," Leconte said. "This is a big challenge for me but makes me very happy."
