Six Top 10 players at the Brisbane International - Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Jelena Jankovic, Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki.

The two other Top 10 players will both be across the water at the Shenzhen Open - Li Na and Sara Errani.

A trio of Top 20 players will headline at the ASB Classic in Auckland, namely Roberta Vinci, Ana Ivanovic, Kirsten Flipkens and Venus Williams

A few WTA stars will also be making long-awaited returns to the tour in Week 1 of the new season, perhaps most notably former World No.2 Vera Zvonareva, who is set to make her return from shoulder surgery in Shenzhen - it will be her first tournament since the London Olympics a year and a half ago.

Another pair of comebacks will take place in Auckland, with Iveta Melzer - formerly Iveta Benesova - making her comeback from a left shoulder injury, her last tournament coming at the US Open in 2012, and Garbiñe Muguruza playing her first tournament since Wimbledon this year after ankle surgery.

The 30-year-old Dokic played in black tracksuit pants to cover some of what she preferred was not seen, but reintroduced herself to competitive tennis against another adopted Australian attempting a comeback and was reasonably well satisfied with the outcome. If not the result.

''I thought it could have been worse, I thought I would be a lot more nervous,'' Dokic said. ''I'm just happy to get the first one out of the way - it's the worst one. ''I thought there were some positive things today,'' Dokic said. ''Obviously, for my capabilities, I'm not that happy. Obviously, you can't be, but it's a tough draw to get and I think she's definitely probably the favourite to win.''

Gajdosova, too, spoke with some optimism, after what was a tricky on-court reunion and personal return: ''We know each other very well. We've struggled, both of us, very much throughout the years, and she's trying to make a comeback, I'm trying to make a comeback. It was kind of unknown how it's gonna look, what's gonna happen … it's a long way from what we both can play.

''My illness was a bit shorter than hers, so she definitely has a tougher road than I do, but I think she can get on very fast, she just needs a few more matches, a few more months of practice, and she'll be fine.''
Earlier, the major upset of another damp day was achieved by 16-year-old Queenslander Akira Santillan, who upstaged second-seed Matt Reid 6-2, 6-2, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3 in a marathon match.

2014 New WTA ranking point distribution***
The WTA Board of Directors has approved an adjustment to the current WTA Ranking Point Distribution. The new ranking points will be introduced over a 12-month period from the start of the 2014 season.

The changes to the current ranking rules are:

- At both WTA and ITF level, the round to round distribution has been standardized

- Players are better rewarded for winning and going deep in tournaments

- First round points at Mandatory tournaments have been doubled

- Qualifying points at Internationals have been enhanced

- Grand Slam qualifying points have been adjusted to lessen the difference with WTA Premier events qualifying points, which have similarly-ranked qualifying draws

*New points will be added only as 2013 results drop off so change will be gradual.

1. Grand Slam QLF reduced from 60/50/40/2 to 40/30/20/2

2. QLF Pts: GS - 40, PM - 30, P5 - 30, Premier - 25, International - 18

3. GS/WTA Round to Round Distribution: 65/60/55/55/55/55

4. WTA 125K and ITF Round to Round Distribution: 60/60/50/50/50

5. 1st Round Grand Slam and Premier Mandatory = 10 vs 5 / 1st Round Premier Mandatory Qualifying 2 vs 1

6. WTA Qualifier receives 45-50% at Premiers, 57% at Grand Slams, and 60% at Internationals of 1st Round Main Draw Win

7. ITF New 25+H Level with 60 pts to Winner…… ITF 15K receives 5 more points to distance from 10K
ITF 75K, 5 more points to winner. ITF 50+H, and 50K, 10 more points to winner.

Kalendar za 2014. su 50 puta menjali a kao prvi je napravljen još krajem januara. Vidim sada brišu se Brisel, Palermo... Tokijo ostaje kao običan Premier i Kuala Lumpur ostaje i dadaje se još i Turnir u Tjencinu (verovatno kao zamena što Kina nema Završni).

Kuala Lumpur je "kupio" licencu od Palerma, ovo ostalo ko zna. Mislim da je otpao i neki turnir tokom leta u SAD.

Danka Kovinic igrace u 1. kolu kvalifikacija za Brizbejn protiv 87. teniserke svijeta Holandjanke Kiki Bertens. Mec je zakazan za petak u jedan sat posle ponoci. Ukoliko savlada Holandjanku u drugom kolu bi igrala protiv pobjednice meca Dusevina-Duval.
