Spanish doubles specialist Nuria Llagostera Vives is facing a two-year ban after testing positive for methamphetamine at the Bank of the West Classic in July, the ITF announced.



After having wrist surgery in March, Llagostera Vives was set return to the tour in Stanford, Calif. She withdrew after doubles partner Francesca Schiavone fell ill, but by then Llagostera Vives had been randomly selected to provide a urine sample for testing.


The lab test found d-methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth or meth. Llagostera Vives was notified on Aug. 28, two days after the U.S. Open began. After the U.S. Open, where Llagostera Vives reached the third round with Liezel Huber, she accepted a provisional ban and has not played since.

Llagostera Vives was unable to provide any explanation to the independent tribunal as to how the drug got into her system. As a result, the tribunal issued the mandatory two-year ban, which could effectively end the 33-year-old’s career. Using its discretion, the tribunal chose not to disqualify her results from the five tournaments she played after Stanford, which allows her to keep more than $30,000 in prize money. She will be eligible to play again on Sept. 7, 2015.

Kad pogleda čovek da je ona dosta vremena bila najbolja britanska teniserka, sadašnje stanje na WTA im je još i prilično dobro.

Ona se posle OI penzionisala, pa vidim da je opet nesto igrala na moje iznenadjenje.
Sada je valjda definitivno u penziji.

Ode Fish u golfere, sto mu je i pametno

Mardy Fish, who has not played a tennis tournament since the summer, has been trying his hand at pro golf, recently playing two events on the All-American Gateway Tour, a circuit for pros who are trying to get their PGA Tour card.

The former Top 10 player began experiencing heart problems in 2012 and developed subsequent anxiety issues that have prevented him from resuming a full-time tennis career. Fish only played five ATP events in 2013 and is currently ranked No. 369.

The 31-year-old failed to make the cut at golf tournaments in Arizona. Fish is a scratch golfer and shot a 78 and 75 in both events.

USA Today reached Fish by email, and the American did not deny he was trying to make a go of it in pro golf, even training with a PGA pro for three weeks in Florida this fall. But he told the newspaper he did not want to discuss it until he had “a few days to think about things.”

Anakon na probi kod Sloun Stivens

Teniski stručnjak Pol Anakon, bivši trener Švajcarca Rodžera Federera, sarađivaće ubuduće sa Amerikankom Sloun Stivens.

Menadžer Džon Tobajas naveo je da će novi trener američke teniserke imati probni angažman. Anakon se rastao sa Federerom posle US Opena.

Dvadesetogodišnja Stivens je iznenadila zemljakinju, prvu teniserku sveta Serenu Vilijams na Australijen Openu, kada se plasirala u prvo polufinale jednog Gren slem turnira u karijeri.

Amerikanka je trenutno 12. na WTA listi, igrala je i četvrtfinale na Vimbldonu, ali za sada nema nijednu titulu na WTA nivou.

Britanac Chris Kermode novi predsednik ATP-a od 1. januara

Kermode has been involved in tennis for more than 30 years, first as a player, and then most recently serving as Tournament Director of the Aegon Championships at Queen’s Club, as well as Managing Director of the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals since 2008.

“It’s a huge honour to have been given the opportunity to lead the ATP during what is unquestionably one of the most exciting periods in the history of men’s professional tennis,” said Kermode. “I look forward to getting started in my new role, and to working very hard together with ATP staff, players, tournaments and partners as we look to harness the full potential of our great sport in years to come.”

Roger Federer, President of the ATP Player Council, said, "On behalf of the players, I am delighted to welcome Chris as our new ATP Executive Chairman & President. Chris has a lot of experience having worked in a number of different capacities in tennis over the years and he has all the attributes required to lead the ATP World Tour forward during this period of unprecedented popularity and success."

Wimbledon champion Andy Murray said, “I’ve known and worked with Chris for many years and he gets on well with the players. He's done a great job with Queen’s and the World Tour Finals and I look forward to working with him in his new role.”

Mark Webster, ATP Board Tournament Representative, said, “Chris’s experience in the sports and entertainment industry, his business acumen and his established relationships in tennis make him the perfect candidate to lead the ATP. He has a proven track record in the game and we look forward to him bringing his many attributes to the table in his new role as ATP Executive Chairman & President.”

Justin Gimelstob, ATP Board Player Representative, said, “We are excited to welcome Chris as our new Executive Chairman and President. Following his career as a professional player, Kermode worked as one of London’s top tennis coaches. He went on to work in both the film and music industries, starting his own promotion & events company, before returning to tennis.
