Ivan Lendl, as a player, was known to be keen to do anything within the rules to help himself in a match, i.e. hitting volleys hard into an opponent across the net, wearing distracting "French legionaries" white cloth to cover his neck from heat, etc. Today, as a coach, he went into that bag of tricks to help his player prior to the match.
Of course, I am talking about hideous/distracting colour of Murray's outfit. And it worked very well in the first set - Novak got broken immediately and made bunch of UFEs throughout. Novak wears contact lenses and typically strains his eyes to see the ball, and in the early stages of the match that hideous "yellowness" of Murray was burning his eyes (and not just his eyes - I even saw Lendl in the audience squinting when looking at Murray).
Inevitably, Nole adjusted to the 'disturbing yellowness', started playing his game and won the match, but nevertheless this colour assault (likely designed by Ivan) almost worked! Note that at the beginning of the second set Murray changed his top to another, equally ugly top in a modified shade of "disturbing yellowness", in attempt to get the break immediately. I wonder how come Bodo did not write about this aspect of the match... considering his writing last few years the colour-combat in tennis would be right up his alley...
Finally, congratulations to both guys - to Novak for enduring Murray's outfit and to Andy Murray to accepting to wear it!
