Tomasz Majewski, the Polish shot put Olympic Champion, has never won in Doha in his four previous appearances and he now looks forward to tomorrow’s competition to get in the first place:
“I hope Doha Diamond League will be the first step to a good season” says the “gentle giant” with a smile on his face.
“You always have to find new motivation, after two Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012” says Tomasz, who had undergone an elbow operation in December and is now in full preparation mode, with a view to the Moscow World Athletics Championships this August.
“I was close in Berlin, I missed my chance in Daegu, but now I want to win gold in Moscow, whi ch will be my first at World Championships”.
Tomasz has an opinion on Borussia Dortmund’s football striker Robert Lewandowski, who scored four goals against Real Madrid at the UEFA Champions League semi final:
“Lewandowski is like a god now in Poland, but I can’t complain myself, I have been pretty famous in Poland for the last four years”, he says.
Majewski is confident that the new generation of shot put athletes in Poland could do well: “I feel like a mentor somehow, I train with a group of six young hopefuls and we all work together”.
As far as his ambitions for tomorrow, Tomasz remains confident that day by day he will get in a better shape: “My shape will be growing, growing and in Moscow it will be exploding”, he says with a big smile.
