Reports in Italy claim that Inter still retain Fiorentina's Sinisa Mihajlovic and Porto's Andre Villas Boas as their preferred candidates for the vacant coaching position. Both have worked at the club before, alongside Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho respectively, and Mihajlovic is a former player.
Inter president Massimo Moratti and head of technical staff Marco Branca reportedly met with Mihajlovic on Friday. There have been varying reports about the outcome of the meeting; Sky Sport 24 and Gazzetta dello Sport claim that talks were unsuccessful and that Mihajlovic intends to spend one more season under contract in Florence. On the other hand, Corriere dello Sport holds that Mihajlovic could be appointed on Monday.
Villas-Boas, a treble winner in his first season at Porto, has a €15 million release clause that potential employers must meet to free him from his contract. Also, Porto president Pinto da Costa is 'totally convinced' his coach will remain in Portugal.
Following a disapointing season that included the relinquishing of the Champions League title and the Scudetto, the Giuseppe Meazza club's CEO Ernesto Paolillo yesterday confirmed that Leonardo had left the club, more than likely to move to a role with French club Paris St Germain.
Furthermore, president Massimo Moratti admitted to having spoke with ex-Chile boss Marcelo Bielsa - who reportedly turned down the role.
An announcement is expected on Monday to shed more light on the potential incumbent; former Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini has also been mooted as a fall-back option.
